KCARE
has worked with the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme
(NHSBSP)
since its inception in 1988. Most
mammography equipment offered to the NHSBSP undergoes an assessment
procedure. This includes mammography X-ray units, digital imaging
devices and film screen systems plus associated processing equipment.
The equipment
is generally installed in a centre used for routine breast screening
where KCARE staff carry out an in depth technical evaluation and
co-ordinate the user evaluation of the equipment, in conjunction
with the physics and clinical staff at the assessment site. Additional
information, including calculation of typical dose values, may
be provided by the National Co-ordinating Centre for the Physics
of Mammography.
